Jon Schwochert‘s Scrolling Through the Ages responds to the theme of ‘Repeated rituals – pattern, routine, reprogrammed behaviour’. The artwork uses parallax animation – a technique most commonly found in video games. All images within the animation will be created by photographing the textures of building materials from local landmarks.
The animation layers scenes of everyday life, rituals, routine, patterns in Medway set against a backdrop of images inspired by historical moments. No matter the age, people have always worked in some form, had family meals, religious or spiritual services, and so on. Exploring these rituals help us understand the common universal themes that link us through history.Rate this
