Fancy a chat with a crane? Artificial intelligence trails developed by Hello Lamp Post.

Fancy chatting to a talking crane and other friendly street objects? Well, now you can – and they’ll chat back!

Utilising artificial intelligence with help from the innovative technology company Hello Lamp Post, we’re inviting the community to look at the Medway towns with a fresh perspective.

By encouraging people to strike up playful text message conversations with familiar objects (e.g. cranes, lamp posts and totems), we’ve created two unique digital trails that will add an enriching, experiential layer to Medway.

Chatting via your your mobile phone, we want to hear all about your stories, connect you to those around you and share some history through the eyes of those who have lived and experienced it. Find out more about the blue cranes, and more!

Make sure you keep your eyes out for our talking objects at Rochester Riverside and Chatham Maritime – trust us, you won’t want to miss out on what they have to say!

Important information

The trails are free to access and suitable for all ages. Simply follow the instructions on any sign – using a QR code or text number. Standard messaging rates apply. All messages are anonymous.

The trails would not have been possible without the additional support of Chatham Maritime Trust, The Dockside Outlet Shopping Centre, Pennycuick Collins, Countryside, Medway Council, Southeastern and artist Chris Tipping at Rochester Art Gallery.

How to get there

Rochester Riverside Trail – look out for red signs on objects outside Rochester Station and the Riverside area (via the underpass) at Common Creek Wharf and Blue Boar Lane.

Chatham Maritime Trail – look out for red signs on objects outside the Dockside Outlet Shopping Centre and Pier 5 Bar and Kitchen and also on Liviathan Way – outside the Copper Rivet Distillery and towards the Chatham Maritime Marina.
