An audio poem inspired by the maritime history of East London
An audio poem using material from The Maritime Museum and The Cutty Sark. An integrated mix of poetry and documentation to evoke the atmosphere of going to sea in the 18th century. At this time of burgeoning exploration, when trade, science and navigation were coming together to forge new areas of wealth, prestige and commerce, the exploitation of people was easy to overlook. From sailors who lost their lives from sickness, to indigenous people working in slave conditions. The piece was recorded at Caste Iron.
